Sad News

Fellow Balfourians:

I am sad to report that Gary Fader passed away today of natural causes.  He was my brother and best friend for many years and while recent years were hard on him I will never forget his brilliant mind and sense of humor.  Rest in Peace, my brother...

  • Wow, like Ross I just read this. Gary was the absolute best. I'd so hoped he'd be part of the reunion. Instead, I guess we'll honor his memory.

  • Very sorry to just read this about Gary.  My fond memories of Gary are those of a loving kind man who was very wise and extremely bright.  A true child of the 60's.

  • Sorry to read about Gary.  Loved the Harvello song.

  • Gary will be missed. His tremendous enthusiasm and energy made him one of the true leaders at the camp. His attitude was always so positive and he never had a bad word to say about anyone. Together with people like Lew Bader he was always in the center of camp activity. He will be missed.
  • Yes he was.  He was a good sport.

  • Was Harvellow=Harvey Kojan?

  • Truth be known, though Gary and I both sang the Balfour version of For What It's Worth, it was Paul Socolow and Ray Kotcher who created it...and Paul, the great musician who played guitar.  I did learn to play in later years (Paul taught me).  Gary's claim to fame was the Harvello Marshmallow Jello song.

    We love Harvello

    Marshmallow Jello

    It’s so nice and mellow.

  • I am very sorry to hear this sad news.  I have fond childhood memories of Gary over the summers up at Balfour.  He was a terrific counselor and a favorite of many campers.  Listening to Gary & Lew play guitar singing their  version of Buffalo Springfield's "For What Its Worth" around a campfire was my personal all time favorite.  www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5M_Ttstbgs

    Gary will be missed...

  • Sorry to hear this. Gary was always one of my favorite people at Balfour. He always wore that floppy felt hat and played the guitar and sang. Later, Gary
