Tell us about yourself

I was born in the rural utopia of Brooklyn, New York where I spent my formative years receiving regular (and well-deserved) beatings from the neighborhood thugs. I survived long enough to escape to a posh Long Island suburb, then wasted four years of my father's hard-earned money partying my way through college at SUNY Albany. Upon graduation I embarked upon a duo of dubious careers: radio personality and rock musician. Radio eventually won out, much to the chagrin of my co-workers at FM99 WNOR, where I've presided as program director since 1993. In July, 2007 I returned to the air to assume the afternoon drive show, much to the chagrin of FM99 listeners. Through the years I've also been lucky enough to continue my musical pursuits. My wife Heather and I met in Albany in 1980 and have been married since 1985. After moving from Albany we lived in Buffalo, Houston, and Los Angeles before making our way back east. We have two wonderful kids, Kyle (17) and Katie (14), and three cats. Oh, and whenever I've been asked to name my mentors, the name at the top of the list has always been ... Brian Lehrer! UPDATED 1/23/09: I've joined the ranks of the unemployed. Yes, after 16 years I was a budget-cut victim. Anybody got a job for me? UPDATED 5/2/09: I rejoined the ranks of the gainfully employed, effective 4/27. I'm now the Program Director at 100.7 The Bay, Baltimore's Classic Rock station. UPDATED 8/12/17: Wow, eight years passed in the proverbial blink of eye since my last update. The above job lasted until October 31, 2012, henceforth known as the "Harvello Halloween Massacre". Yeah, I was fired. The following summer, desperate for a job, I foolishly took one in Syracuse. Thankfully that only lasted nine months. I moved back to Baltimore and eventually wound up at 98 Rock, first on the air (part-time) and then (12/1/15) as Production Coordinator (which means I do all the commercials for 98 Rock and WBAL). My "side hustle" (as the kids call it these days) is narrating articles for a variety of publications.
