Opening thoughts - Balfour

It has been a long time - But my years at Balfour have definitely stuck with me - the great color wars until that guy Lynn the tennis instructor pushed for color competition - Waterskiing on the lake - with a mist on it first thing in the morning - Havey Kojan & Mike Cohen were my counselors - I also loved the whole camp playing Capture the Flag - that was awesome -Going to see my first concert America @ Saratoga - the counselers all getting stoned - The first of many hundreds of great shows I have enjoyed over the years -Lewie - Great idea putting this blog site together -

  • I still have that America song "Sandman" stuck in my head from that concert. In 1970 we saw the Who in Saratoga. I was 12 years old. What an eye opener for me. I remember them smashing their instruments at the end of the concert. I remember some of the counselors were really into playing guitars. Gary Fader, Lew Bader. You guys had nice guitars back then. I think it was a Guild guitar?

  • Btw Harvey - I will never forget seeing America - it was my 1st concert, the songs have stuck with me. Just like I will never forget hearing
You on that festival show broadcast on Westwood 1
  • I just had the opportunity to look at the camp pictures and need to correct myself, it was 1973-74 - between Facebook & just still friends I am in touch with a number of former Balfour campers - Roger Feldman - Steve Ellis - Bobby Kempner - The Krooks brothers - Howie Kaye -
Ronnie Ghetto - Jeff Feigelson - Rick Baff - Ricky Steinbach - Todd Flickstern
  • Harvey - I believe I was in bunks 8 & then 10 - in 1972 & 73

You were my counselor with Mike Carr - btw - a couple weeks ago I had a reunion with Bob & Artie Kempner down here in South Florida. Artie was producing the game for NFL network & Bob & I chat on facebook often - so we made plans & went to the game together.
  • Hey, Mark. It appears I missed this post until now. Better late than never, I guess. What year was I your counselor? Which bunk? My memory has faded badly over these many years. I do remember going to see America. I may be crazy but I believe Jackson Browne may have been the opening act ... but we didn't arrive in time.
