Yeah, the 6-12 flamethrower. It was used to kill moths. Man, there sure were alot of bugs there. Remember when they would spray DDT at the camp? They would put all of us in the mess hall to see a spaghetti western, while they sprayed the camp.
I remember that crazy incident too. My mom still is haunted by the postcard I sent her from camp when we got back telling her about the "bear attack" in our lean to. I hear about it at least once a year...
Lanny, wasn't there some kind of homemade flamethrower we used made with a match and a can of 6-12?
I remember that bear incident. Someone spilled an entire pot full of beef stew about 15 feet from the lean to. Of course a bear would show up for that! I think that Lanny is the culprit that spilled it. It was either him or Kenny Woodeen.
oh... so thats what the top of Mt Marcy looks like.... And yes I remember the bear because the first night he ate my pack which he took from behind my head... and on the second night when he returned I heard a growl by my head (as I was sleeping along the log at the front of lean to) and I turned to hit the "racoon" only to come face to face with Mr Bear.... you have never seen anyone move so quick in a sleeping bag.... and then the kids kept saying, "Lanny use your knife, use your knife".... the bear strolled around for 5 minutes or so and then moved on and we banged our pots for a while to help him on his way... We got very lucky that night I think...
I loved Mount Marcy - I was not there yet - I was there in the early 70's - The long hike to get into the park - The great streams and waterfalls - the fresh clean freezing cold water was just incredible - Does anyone remember a Bear coming into our camp - and close to our Lean two - I remember being dragged to the back of the leantwo - because the bear was very close -
