Showers

Never ever had a hot shower at Balfour.

Any one remember Chef Harry? Sol Press? Oscar Dombrow?

  • I remenber those those nights of cold showers and walking back to our bunks freezing , yep the bathrooms were between the bunks  and the plumbing was terrible.I also remenber Oscar Dombrow,do you remenber  the Mesabar brothers ? (I think I'm spelling their names right).

  • Sounds exactly the same as when I went there. Showers were in the same place between bunks 8 and 9. In 1970 I was in Bunk 10. In 1974 I was a assistant counselor for Ross Tenzer in Bunk 8. A local guy named Bill Moose was the camp handyman. Every summer the counselors would play a softball game against the Minerva locals. They usually destroyed us.

  • 1970 was a new dawn. In the 50’s the showers were up the hill behind bunk 8-10 ( my guess). They trickled cold water- a disaster. The bathrooms were between bunks and Max Dunn usually walked around with a plunger clearing clogged toilets.
We were all kids from the City. Learning to canoe, to shoot a 22, to do arts and crafts, take nature hikes and mountain hikes ( Mt Marcy) was just part of our growing up. My Dad paid $400 bucks for a full 8 weeks.
We were lucky middle class kids.
  • Showers worked okay from 1970-74.
