I spent 13 wonderful summers at Balfour and my inpiration to become a rabbi was leading Sabbath Services. Amazingly I celebrated my 80th birthday in Jerusalem and gave thanks at the Holy Wall for surviving cancer 5 times. My nickname is The Running Rabbi for competing in the 1978 NYC Marathon. In 1980 I made a humanitarian visit to the 52 hostages and was invited by President Reagan to greet them at the White House upon their return. As a rabbi I believe that the heart of true religion is human goodness and decency far surpassing denominational differences and parochial lines. My Facebook page is running rabbi and I reach people in 55 countries with my inspirational blog. Two years ago I celebrated my 80th birthday in Jerusalem and gave thanks for surviving cancer. It was at Balfour that I learned the meaning of friendship and my life has great meaning by being a friend to my fellow cancer patients and all who struggle with adversity. If you would like to reminisce my cell is 914.272.5682..Shalom and blessing to all..Hirshel Jaffe
