How intense could it get? Silent Meals, Bunk Inspections, Mess Hall Cheers, Apache Relay, Swim Meet, Track Meet...competition 24/7...and then, there was Color Competion (oh well).

well the braves will win with all of our might, blue braves, fight we're gonna fight we're gonna fight, fight, fight (sung to the tune of jumpin jack flash) ps rope burn was amazing, one year they came down almost exactly at the same time.
As I remember the true proponent of Color Competition was Bruce Gelfand, but many of us got on the bandwagon. This was a time when the War in Vietnam was raging and the whole idea of war was very real to us. The notion of militarisitc types of competition with intensity of that magnitude was a turn-off. In retrospect, it did not have the same intensity and was not a successful experiment. Today, many of the camps call it Color Games.
Ah, Color War. Nothing was more intense, especially in my early days at Balfour when there were absolutely no "p.c." concerns. I first experienced it as a 10-year-old in 1965. I was lucky enough to be named MVP of the winning Blue "Jets" team that summer. For a "chubby" kid with "issues" ... well, that was a singular thrill.
Soaring higher, higher
Set the sky on fire
Jets infallible are we
Blue will win the race
The Gray can't stand the pace
Fight, fight, fight to victory
How the heck can I still remember our fight song from (gulp) 43+ years ago? Strangely, I can't remember any of the songs I later wrote as a Color War/Competition counselor.
